The small table was designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret for the Maison La Roche, the villa built between 1923 and 1925 for Raoul La Roche, who commissioned a house where he could also exhibit his art collection. Displayed in 1925 at the Pavillon de l’Esprit Nouveau in Paris – the prestigious international exhibition of modern decorative and industrial arts where Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret designed the “base cell”, a prototype of purely industrial urban home unit – this small metal table was the fi rst piece of the future revolutionary metal furniture series exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in 1929.
